Belize is genuinely multicultural — Creole, Mestizo, Garifuna, Maya, Mennonite, and a steadily growing expat community — and English is the official language, so newcomers integrate quickly. The food follows the same pattern: rice and beans and stew chicken sit happily next to ceviche, fry jacks, and fresh-caught snapper grilled on the beach.
The practical side
Daily life has modernised faster than most visitors expect. Fibre internet now reaches the main towns and islands, which has brought a wave of remote workers; domestic flights hop the whole country in under an hour; and the farmers' markets in San Ignacio and Punta Gorda will ruin supermarket produce for you permanently.
The honest caveats: things move slower, the summer is hot and humid, and small inconveniences are part of the deal. Most people who thrive here decided early that those are features, not bugs.
